Danville, Kentucky – Throughout the COVID season of the unknown, our church has made it clear we are going to continue to make Jesus’ name known. Our mission has thrived in this new season of the church, because the church has left the building and multiplied in many different ways.
From outdoor outreaches on Main Street to walking across the street with Watermelon Wednesday where we love our neighbors, life continues to thrive during this challenging time in our culture.
One individual who had been engaging our culture and asking questions about God before COVID shut everything down began to lean in even more when we pivoted into something new. Robert had been working with us during the build-out phase of our building and connecting to men and leaders by asking tough questions about his faith and life. Through those relationships, God started to change his heart.
COVID hit and we launched our intentional Zoom groups digitally. We did not know how that would work, but Robert realized during this season that he didn’t need a church building to grow – he just needed the Father’s unending love to change his life! These men of faith who had been pouring life into Robert, these changed lives in Christ, were witnessing a new changed life. We have a saying at Centerpoint: Changed Lives, Change Lives, and essentially that was happening before our eyes.
Robert and his family began leaning into God, allowing Him to change not only his life, but his family’s. Robert decided to make this moment in his life evident to all by going public with his faith. Because we were still under restrictions of how we could gather, and we did not have a working baptistery, we once again just pivoted. We contacted a local farm supply store and asked to use a cattle water trough, then invited Robert to join us the following Sunday as we went live on social media with his baptism. He was so excited, he began making phone calls and sending text and email messages inviting others to join him – especially those who had invested in his changed life.
When Sunday came, the people he had invited were there, along with many more. The energy in the room was filled with the Holy Spirit and overwhelming. Those men stood by Robert’s side and participated in his going public moment. He began thanking those men, encouraging them for investing into him, and asking, “Now, who’s next?”
Robert’s family is now leading the way in bold and fresh outreach, teaching others about a changed life through Jesus. One person Robert has continued to pursue is his father. Each day, Robert’s changed life continues to impact his father’s life, and we are witnessing the gospel change not just one man, not just a family, but an entire community of where he works, lives, and plays.
